While considering the purchase of a point & shoot camera this year for street, travel, and family photography am trying to evaluate a Leica Q3 or Fujifilm X100VI versus two cameras I already own – the always in my pocket iPhone 16 Pro or the Nikon Z6 III.
Favoring the Q3 and X100VI are a couple issues related to sun and heat that occasionally afflict the iPhone : (1 ) in bright sun the iPhone screen automatically dims making it difficult to use the screen for composing one’s shot and (2) on hot days the iPhone can over heat and shut down until it cools off.
Favoring the iPhone 16 Pro and Nikon Z6 III…
- the phone is always in one’s pocket,
- autofocus on the point & shoot cameras is subpar vs the autofocus found on the Nikon Z6ii,
- the Q3 body is a bit awkward to hold without a grip (an extra 3rd party expense), and
- both the Leica and Fujifilm cameras come with a very steep price.
A Peta Pixel review of the Leica Q3 and James Popsys’ (Thomas Heaton’s) review provided a pretty clear eyed outline of the cameras pros and cons. There are many pros. And some cons including the very steep price of the Leica cameras.
